Where does the information in the list come from?
Our source is AccuData, who compiles their consumer data from telephone directories, warranty cards, mortgage data, credit bureaus, the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. Census Bureau, and numerous "specialty" sources (for lifestyle data). Business data is compiled from the Yellow Pages, government records, and corporate reports.

How accurate/recent is the data?
Resident/Occupant consumer data is compiled and updated against U.S. Census Bureau and Postal Service data every two months. Business data is compiled and updated monthly.

For any list rental, 7-10% is considered an acceptable undeliverable rate.

What are some tips for building an effective list?
The first and most obvious approach is to ask yourself the question "Who is my ideal customer?" Keeping that person in mind, you can use geographic criteria to first determine the physical areas you wish to target, and then drill down to the specific type of customer you're looking for using demographic criteria. You can use the demographic criteria to narrow your list based on everything from income to home ownership to hobbies and interests.

One effective marketing strategy is to do a few "test" runs, marketing to a small number of people using certain criteria. If the test run garners favorable results, you can increase the quantity (or geographic range) of your list to reach a wider audience with subsequent mailings. If the test run fails to meet your expectations, you can alter the criteria until you get the results you want, and then widen your audience.

What are SIC Codes?
SIC (or Standard Industrial Classification) codes are 2, 4, 6 or 8-digit numbers that are used to classify businesses. The codes become more specific as you add digits, with 2-digit codes being general classifications and 8-digit being the most specific. Because there are so many numbers, it is unlikely that you will actually know the SIC code of the businesses you are trying to target when building your business list. For that reason, there is a keyword search that will allow you to search business types and automatically put those businesses (along with the appropriate SIC code) into the "Selected" column of your list.

If you do wish to view a directory of 4-digit SIC codes, you may do so here:

How much do lists cost?
This will depend on the criteria you select, as some criteria are more expensive than others. Each criteria you add will incur an additional expense (usually around $5-10 per 1000 names) but will also usually lower the overall cost of the list since more criteria means fewer names.

How can I determine the final quantity of my list?
You can start the list creation process either by entering the number of names you want or by entering a geographic region you wish to target and then narrowing down the number of names based on various demographics. If your criteria yield fewer results than your desired list size, you'll probably want to use the "back" button to widen your geographic criteria until you get to the desired size.

If you opt to create a list of a specific size, but your criteria yield a larger number of names than that size, names will be chosen at random until arriving at the number you selected.

What if the number of names in my list doesn't match the quantity I wish to print?
After you've created your list, you will be returned to the ordering page where you can adjust the quantity of your printing job to match the quantity of your list. Or, you can refine your criteria selections until the size of your list matches the desired print quantity. If your list is larger than the print quantity, we will print only the first names in the list until the print quantity has been reached. If the list is smaller than the print quantity, the balance of the prints will be sent to you via the shipping method of your choice.

Can I use the list more than once?
We sell lists only for one-time usage. If you wish to use a list again, you will need to make note of your criteria and re-order it when placing your next print order.

Can I have the list for use with other projects?
No. Lists created through Greenerprinter are for use only with Greenerprinter printing and mailing projects, and are not available for any other purpose.

What if I cancel my order after I've paid for a list?
Greenerprinter acts only as a facilitator of list creation. This means that when you create a list on our site, we actually "rent" it for you from our vendor. For this reason, we are unable to offer refunds on list orders after the transaction is complete.

What if I wish to obtain a list for a custom printing estimate?
There will be a link within your custom estimate page that will take you to the list building tool. The list cost will be added to your estimate. IMPORTANT: Make sure you include mailing costs in your estimate request. If you create a list that is larger than the quantity in your custom estimate, we will print only as many names as are in the estimate. If you create a list that is lower than the quantity of your estimate, the balance of the printed pieces will be shipped to you via the shipping method of your choice.

How can I measure the effectiveness of the list?
We strongly recommend that any direct mail marketing pieces contain some sort of "Call to Action" which can be recorded and measured so that you can gauge the success of your campaign. Some ideas: Coupons, special offers, special events, requests for email responses or web page visits (with special discount codes) or even prize drawings.
