About Our Environmental Papers

One of the features that makes Greenerprinter unique is that we use recycled paper exclusively. When you print with us, you don't have to make a special request for recycled paper - it's all that we carry. Our house stocks are manufactured by New Leaf paper, and contain the highest possible percentages of recycled content and sustainably harvested papers, processed without the use of chlorine or chlorine derivatives (bleaching without chlorine or chlorine compounds results in a much less polluting paper making process).

We carry four paper stocks to meet your printing needs: a matte finish (Reincarnation), uncoated (Everest), high-gloss (Primavera), and semi-gloss (Sakura). To receive samples of our paper stocks, please click on the "Request Samples" button at the bottom of this page.

REINCARNATION MATTE - COATED

Reincarnation Matte boasts superior print performance, unrivaled environmental specifications, and excellent value. Its elegant look makes it by far our most popular paper, and once you've seen samples, you'll understand why: The ink gloss gives a subtle shine to images, while the matte surface provides a classy, nonreflective background. We recommend Reincarnation Matte for all of our most popular products: Postcards, business cards, brochures, catalogs and more.

EVEREST - PREMIUM UNCOATED

With a smooth print surface and a brightness of 91, Everest is a premium uncoated sheet that costs much less than most competitors. A special surface treatment results in crisp laser printing and outstanding print reproduction. We recommend Everest for all of our stationery products (letterhead, envelopes) and any other project where an uncoated finish is desired.

For items that require a "semi-gloss" finish, Sakura is a 50% post-consumer waste recycled coated paper that combines unparalleled environmental specifications with a beautiful print surface and competitive pricing.

PRIMAVERA GLOSS - COATED

For items where a bright, high-gloss, smooth surface sheet is desired, we recommend Primavera Gloss. Primavera carries the best eco-specifications in the US for a gloss paper. The paper has a tendency to crack when folded, due to the very high recycled content and clay coating, but the cracking usually shows only against dark inks and is rarely noticeable when the fold is on no or light ink.

Privacy Policy: We will not share, distribute, or sell your information outside of our company. Period. We do periodically send email newsletters with information and offers that may be useful to you.

CLOSE
Paper Brightness: Paper brightness is typically measured on a scale of 1 to 100, with 100 being the brightest. Most copier and desktop printer paper has a brightness in the 80s, while photo papers are normally in the mid to high 90s. The recycled papers we carry are among the brightest recycled papers available, but since they are processed without chlorine or chlorine derivatives, they are naturally not as "bright" as many non-recycled "virgin" stocks.

CLOSE
Image Cropping: Photos can be scaled to fit either the height or the width of the space available. If your photo doesn't "fit" correctly in the space, try changing this setting.
Please check your PDF proof carefully to make sure that the image remains high-resolution enough to print well (it should not appear "pixelized" when viewed on screen at 200% or lower).

CLOSE
Bleed: If the artwork on your business card goes all the way to the edge of the paper, you need to add "bleed". Bleed will compensate for tolerances in the trimming process. If your business card requires bleed, the file you upload should be 3.75" x 2.25". If your business card doesn't require bleed, the file you upload should be 3.5" x 2" (the "trim" size). For more information about bleed, click HERE (opens in new window).

CLOSE
NOTE: If you are trying to select a larger or smaller text size and nothing is happening, this is because the text that you have entered has been automatically scaled down to fit in the space allotted. Reducing the amount of text will restore the font size options.

CLOSE
Applying a tint to a color lightens its value. If you are applying a tint, we strongly recommend that you do NOT use white text, as it may become difficult to read. We cannot be held responsible for legibility issues.

CLOSE
Colors: Greenerprinter greeting cards print "4/1", which means they are full Color (CMYK) on the outside and the text on the inside prints in black.

"What type of file can I upload for my logo?"
The file name of your logo must include ONLY alpha-numeric characters, no symbols. In order for your logo to correctly reverse out of the colorized background box, it should be either an EPS or PDF file, with all elements set to white. The following file formats are preferred:
  • EPS - Files saved as EPS (Encapsulated Postscript) from a graphics program (Adobe Illustrator, FreeHand, CorelDraw, etc). Note to Mac users: Select "TIFF" for preview format.

  • PDF (Portable Document Format) - When using PDFs, make sure the page size is only slightly larger than the logo itself. This will minimize white space around the edges. You will also need to make sure your PDF is created with fonts embedded. And, if your logo includes pixel (image) data, make sure it is high resolution and that the PDF is saved as a "Press Ready" file.

The following formats are acceptable, but please note that they will appear as rectangles... white backgrounds will NOT be transparent (please use EPS graphics or PDF for transparent backgrounds).
  • JPEG, JPG, TIFF - These image formats are acceptable, but please adhere to the following:
    • Resolution: At least 300 dpi at the size used
    • Colorspace: CMYK, though RGB is acceptable (will be converted to CMYK automatically)
    • Embedded Profiles: Allowed, though not recommended
    • Compression: TIFFs with LZW compression are acceptable

  • GIF, BMP, PNG - These web and screen-capture formats are acceptable but are generally too low-resolution to print well (transparency will also be lost). If you use one of these formats, please check your PDF preview carefully!

The following file formats are NOT ACCEPTABLE:
  • Microsoft Office Files - Office files should be exported (saved) as PDFs (see above)

  • Native Graphics Program Files - Save graphics files as EPS (see above)

  • Page Layout Program Files - Quark or InDesign pages should be exported (saved) as a PDF or EPS (see above)

  • TGA (Targa), SCT (Scitex CT), PBM (Portable Bitmap), PCT (Pict), RSR (Pict Resource), PCX - These proprietary image formats will not process correctly within our system

Size: For horizontal cards, optimum size and resolution is 3.75 x 2.25" at 350 dpi. If your file does not match these parameters, our software will scale the width up or down to fit the proportion of the business card template. This means that if your photo is too "tall", a portion of the bottom may be trimmed off. If your photo is too "wide", there may be white space at the bottom.

The area outside the red dotted line is the "bleed" area, which is necessary due to tolerances in the trimming process. This area will be trimmed off of your final card.

Please check your PDF proof carefully for correct resolution and size! Once your order is placed, these cannot be adjusted!

Refers to the type of binding on your mulit-page document.
  • Saddle-Stitched - The Saddle Stitching method uses two vertical staples along the binding.
  • Wire-O - A Wire-O binding holds the covers and pages of a document firmly in place by means of a double-loop wire inserted through holes drilled in the left-hand edges of the pages. All of the pages lay flat when opened, can easily turn 360 degrees, and stay in perfect registration with adjoining pages. Wire-O bindings come in nine standard colors. The default color is black; if you would like another color, please specify in the "notes" field at checkout. A customer service representative will contact you for more information. Loop diameters range from 3/16" to 1-1/4" depending on the number of pages. They can handle documents from 1/8" to 1" thick. Often, they are used to bind reference books, reports, proposals, and calendars. They are durable, but do not permit printing on the document spine, nor do they allow the insertion of additional pages.

About these templates:
All of these templates are Illustrator EPS files which you can use either to build your layout in Illustrator or to place into QuarkXPress or InDesign to use as guidelines. Each template will have crop (trim) marks, bleed marks (the area to which you want to extend your artwork beyond the trim), and fold marks. If you are placing these files into Quark, make sure that with the item selected, you click on "Item/Preview Resolution/Full resolution." If placing into InDesign, select "View/Display Performance/High Quality Display". This will cause the template to display in high resolution, allowing you to more accurately place your artwork.

  • This is a proof in PDF format that you can view on screen or download and print to your own printer.
  • This is our fastest and least expensive (free!) proofing option.
  • Hard proofs are typically not available (or effective) for proofing 1 or 2-color jobs such as pads and identity packages.
* All proofs require "sign-off" on a simple acknowledgement form on this website. You will receive the link via email along with your proof.

One of the items in this menu will read "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As..." or something similar. Select this option and specify the folder on your computer where you want the PDF to be copied.

The download process may take several minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection and the size of the PDF, so please be patient! (Most browsers also have a "Downloads" window that will allow you to view the progress of your file download).

Proof: All jobs at Greenerprinter require an approved proof before we begin printing. Soft proofs can be approved online while hard proofs need to be returned to Greenerprinter via the shipping method of your choice. For more information about turnaround times, please click on "More Info..." next to "Turnaround Times" below.
  • Soft Proof - You will receive via e-mail a custom URL (web page) from which you can download your PDF proof. This is our fastest and cheapest (free) proofing option. Since computer monitors reproduce colors differently than printing presses, we cannot guarantee color matching to soft proofs. For color critical projects, please request a Hard Proof which can be matched when printing.
  • Hard Proof - We will send you (via overnight delivery) a full color hard copy proof. This is a color accurate proof which will be used as a color match when printing. Please note that our hard proofs are untrimmed, one-sided inkjet proofs produced on a semi-gloss proofing stock. They are meant to show color ONLY. If you are concerned about paper, we recommend that you order samples. Attached to this proof will be a proof-approval tag that you must sign and return with the proof. Please note that the hard proof option adds at least 2 business days to the turnaround time you select.
If after reviewing your proof you discover that there are changes required, you may request that we make the changes for you (this will incur a "desktop" fee based on the extent of the changes) or you may send a revised file via the "Account Details" page (requires log-in). If you have any questions, please email csr@greenerprinter.com, call 1-866-978-8547 or use the "CHAT" feature at the top of this page.
