About these templates:

Templates are Adobe Illustrator EPS files which you can use either to build your layout in Illustrator or to place into QuarkXPress or InDesign to use as a guideline. The template contains crop (trim) marks, and bleed marks (the area to which you want to extend your artwork beyond the trim). If you are placing your file into Quark, make sure that with the item selected, you click on "Item/Preview Resolution/Full resolution." If placing into InDesign, select "View/Display Performance/High Quality Display". This will cause the template to display in high resolution, allowing you to more accurately place your artwork.

Gable Box
Gable boxes have a "lock-bottom", and a convenient handle at the top. Perfect for organic snacks (our "Kraft" board is FDA certified!), t-shirts or even unique promotional items. You can get discounted pricing if you choose our "standard" gable boxes that are 7" wide x 5" deep x 5" high (8.5" high including handle)... just click HERE.
 

Tuck Ends
Tuck ends are standard retail boxes that are easy to assemble and can be opened and closed easily. This classic design has many uses, from software to snacks to clothing.
 

Auto-lock Bottom
Auto-lock bottom boxes have glued tabs at the bottom, allowing them to support heavier items yet still lay flat when unassembled. You can also add a tab with a hook to the back to suspend the package from a display wire.

Tray with sleeve
A two-piece packaging solution, ideal for heavier products or a more elegant presentation. We ship our business cards in these sturdy boxes. You can include printing on the tray as well as the sleeve.

Sleeve
Some heavier products may require a corrugated tray, or maybe you have a box-shaped product that simply needs a protective sleeve that doubles as packaging. Sleeves are a simple, cost-effective solution.
 

POP displays
The sky's the limit with POP ("Point-of-Purchase") displays... typically these are trays that sit at a checkout counter and act both as eye-catching promotional pieces and convenient shipping and display containers. With our custom die-cutting, you can design a POP display in just about any shape or configuration you can dream up.

Dispenser boxes
Dispenser boxes are most commonly used in restaurants to display and "dispense" tea bags, but they can be used for other types of products as well. The dispenser opening is usually perforated so that your product can ship in the dispenser as well as be displayed in it.

Paper Brightness: Paper brightness is typically measured on a scale of 1 to 100, with 100 being the brightest. Most copier and desktop printer paper has a brightness in the 80s, while photo papers are normally in the mid to high 90s. The recycled papers we carry are among the brightest recycled papers available, but since they are processed without chlorine or chlorine derivatives, they are naturally not as "bright" as many non-recycled "virgin" stocks.

Image Cropping: Photos can be scaled to fit either the height or the width of the space available. If your photo doesn't "fit" correctly in the space, try changing this setting.
Please check your PDF proof carefully to make sure that the image remains high-resolution enough to print well (it should not appear "pixelized" when viewed on screen at 200% or lower).

Bleed: If the artwork on your business card goes all the way to the edge of the paper, you need to add "bleed". Bleed will compensate for tolerances in the trimming process. If your business card requires bleed, the file you upload should be 3.75" x 2.25". If your business card doesn't require bleed, the file you upload should be 3.5" x 2" (the "trim" size). NOTE: If you are trying to select a larger or smaller text size and nothing is happening, this is because the text that you have entered has been automatically scaled down to fit in the space allotted. Reducing the amount of text will restore the font size options.

Applying a tint to a color lightens its value. If you are applying a tint, we strongly recommend that you do NOT use white text, as it may become difficult to read. We cannot be held responsible for legibility issues.

"What type of file can I upload for my logo?"
The file name of your logo must include ONLY alpha-numeric characters, no symbols. In order for your logo to correctly reverse out of the colorized background box, it should be either an EPS or PDF file, with all elements set to white. The following file formats are preferred:
  • EPS - Files saved as EPS (Encapsulated Postscript) from a graphics program (Adobe Illustrator, FreeHand, CorelDraw, etc). Note to Mac users: Select "TIFF" for preview format.

  • PDF (Portable Document Format) - When using PDFs, make sure the page size is only slightly larger than the logo itself. This will minimize white space around the edges. You will also need to make sure your PDF is created with fonts embedded. And, if your logo includes pixel (image) data, make sure it is high resolution and that the PDF is saved as a "Press Ready" file.

The following formats are acceptable, but please note that they will appear as rectangles... white backgrounds will NOT be transparent (please use EPS graphics or PDF for transparent backgrounds).
  • JPEG, JPG, TIFF - These image formats are acceptable, but please adhere to the following:
    • Resolution: At least 300 dpi at the size used
    • Colorspace: CMYK, though RGB is acceptable (will be converted to CMYK automatically)

Photo size: The containers for the photos on the calendar are 10" wide by 7½" high. Photos that are "tall" (taller than they are wide) will be scaled to 7½" high. Photos that are "wide" (wider than they are tall) will be scaled to 10" wide. "Tall" photos should be at least 1500 pixels high. "Wide" photos should be at least 2000 pixels wide.

  • Saddle-Stitched - The Saddle Stitching method uses two vertical staples along the binding.
  • Wire-O - A Wire-O binding holds the covers and pages of a document firmly in place by means of a double-loop wire inserted through holes drilled in the left-hand edges of the pages. All of the pages lay flat when opened, can easily turn 360 degrees, and stay in perfect registration with adjoining pages. Wire-O bindings come in nine standard colors. About these templates:
All of these templates are Illustrator EPS files which you can use either to build your layout in Illustrator or to place into QuarkXPress or InDesign to use as guidelines. Each template will have crop (trim) marks, bleed marks (the area to which you want to extend your artwork beyond the trim), and fold marks. If you are placing these files into Quark, make sure that with the item selected, you click on "Item/Preview Resolution/Full resolution." If placing into InDesign, select "View/Display Performance/High Quality Display". This will cause the template to display in high resolution, allowing you to more accurately place your artwork.

PDF Guidelines for Greenerprinter Business Cards

Note: The name of your PDF CANNOT contain non-alphanumeric characters ( #, +, %, &, *).

To create a PDF from any of the Adobe Creative Suite applications (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) follow these instructions (Note: You need to create separate PDFs for the front and back of your business card):
  1. Save As... (Illustrator/Photoshop) or Export...(InDesign).
  2. Select PDF as the format.
  3. Set "Adobe PDF Preset" to Press Quality.
  4. Set "Compatibility" to Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5).
  5. IF your artwork requires bleed: In the "Marks and Bleeds" section (InDesign and Illustrator only), set "Bleeds" to .125 inch on all sides. If your design is created in Photoshop, build your artwork at 3.75 x 2.25. For more info about bleed, click HERE
  6. In the "Output" section:
    • Set "Color Conversion" to No Conversion.
    • Set "Profile Inclusion Policy" to Don't Include Profiles.
  7. Click Save PDF
You now have a "Press Ready" PDF ready to upload!

Reincarnation is the thickest 100% recycled "white" paper we carry, and it's FSC certified.

We do not recommend kraft paper if your artwork contains images or light/pastel colors. Please note that we do not offer hard proofs for kraft paper, but you will receive a PDF soft proof that will approximate how your artwork will appear when printed on kraft paper.

Paper:  Select a paper based on the desired finish. For coated papers we offer "Reincarnation" Matte, and Gloss. Imagination and Kraft are uncoated papers, which gives them a more "organic" appearance.

"Book" stocks are lighter in weight, while "cover" stocks are heavier. Heavier book weights are usually indistinguishable from lighter cover weights.

Paper:  The papers available here are all appropriate for business applications: Business cards will print on a heavy card stock, envelopes on a medium weight cover stock, and letterhead on a book-weight writing stock that will accept laser and inkjet printer toners .

Proof: All jobs at Greenerprinter require an approved proof before we begin printing. Soft proofs can be approved online while hard proofs need to be returned to Greenerprinter via the shipping method of your choice.
  • Soft Proof - You will receive via e-mail a custom URL from which you can download your PDF proof. This is our fastest and cheapest (free) proofing option. Since computer monitors reproduce colors differently than printing presses, we cannot guarantee color matching to soft proofs. For color critical projects, we suggest a Hard Proof which can be matched when printing.
  • Hard Proof - We will send you (via overnight delivery) a full color hard copy proof. This is a color accurate proof which will be used as a color match when printing. Please note that our hard proofs are untrimmed, one-sided inkjet proofs produced on a semi-gloss proofing stock. They are meant to show color ONLY. Attached to this proof will be a proof-approval tag that you must sign and return with the proof. Please note that the hard proof option adds at least 2 business days to the turnaround time you select.
If after reviewing your proof you discover that there are changes required, you may request that we make the changes for you (this will incur a "desktop" fee based on the extent of the changes) or you may send a revised file via your account details page.

What are "Self-Service" business cards?

Self-service business cards are the fastest and most economical way on our site to get business cards printed from your supplied file. To order self-service business cards, you will need to:
  • Create your card using our business card template (click "TEMPLATES" above). Templates are available in most common formats.
  • Save your artwork as a "press-ready" PDF (instructions for doing this are available in each template, or in our PDF Creation Guide).
  • Upload and approve an online "soft" proof of your artwork on our self-service ordering page (click the Self-Service "Get Started" button to the right).
After you've uploaded and approved your artwork, you will be taken to the ordering page where you can specify paper (16pt Silk Double Thick Cover or 20pt "kraft") and choose other options such as rush turnaround time and rounded corners.

PLEASE NOTE: If you use our self-service section, no one will review your files; these cards go straight to press. Please review your PDF proof carefully!

What are "Full-Service" business cards?

If you order full-service business cards, a Greenerprinter prepress technician will review your file for any potential printing problems, such as: Incorrect bleed settings, missing fonts or low image resolution. You will be contacted regarding any problems, and once your file has "passed" our inspection, you will be sent a PDF soft proof (or hard proof, if chosen). If you order full-service cards, you may:
  • Send any file format and we'll convert it to a "press-ready" PDF for you.
  • Order "narrow format" (3.5" x 1.5") cards.
  • Request a hard proof.
Full-service and self-service cards are printed exactly the same. Both services allow you to choose the paper you want and add rounded corners. The only difference is the $10 fee we charge for full-service file check and PDF conversion.

Round cards are a great way to make a unique impression. The cards offer the same paper, proofing and turnaround choices as our regular cards.

What are "Design Center" cards?

Design Center cards allow customers who don't have a design to create one using our website. Choose from dozens of templates, including many that even allow you to create your own unique combinations of fonts and colors. There are 3 basic categories of Design Center cards:
  • Photo backgrounds (use our stock photos or one of your own).
  • Graphic designs.
  • Logo cards (add your logo to a card design).
Design center cards are priced the same as our self-service cards, and print on 16pt Silk Double Thick Cover paper. Round corners can be added.

What are "Custom Color" cards?

If your business identity requires a certain Pantone® Matching System color or other custom color, choose "Custom Colors". These cards will allow you to specificy any combination of up to two custom colors (and/or black). If your cards require more than two custom inks, we can still print your card, but you'll need to request a custom quote.

Latex Inks from HP


HP Latex Inks are pigmented, water-based inks designed for commercial and industrial printing applications. The inks use HP's innovative aqueous-dispersed polymer technology to provide print durability and display permanence comparable to eco-solvent inks and low-solvent inks. Their water-based formulation reduces the impact of printing on the environment and enables an improved printing environment. This means:
  • No Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • No special handling requirements
  • Inks are non-toxic, non-flammable, and non-combustible
The inks produce a wide color gamut thanks to a 6-color printing system, and offer 3-5 years of permanence in outdoor environments and 5-10 years indoors.

Recyclable Print Cartridges


The ink cartridges we use reduce material use and include a recyclable cardboard container accounting for approximately 70 percent of the weight of the used ink cartridge. An internal cardboard component (Tray) is also made of recyclable cardboard.

Used Latex Designjet Ink Cartridges are returned through the HP Planet Partners program for recycling.
